The Sanctuary

Ground-breaking for the Sanctuary was held Sunday, May 7, 1978. The basic decision to finance the project through member loans instead of commercial financing served as a positive unifying force for the members. Consecration Sunday was held October 17, 1979.

A special feature included in the construction of the Sanctuary are the stain glass windows. As with the building itself, the cost of the windows was underwritten by memorials and special gifts from the congregation. It took just two Sundays for the windows to be completely underwritten. The south wall, containing 18 panels claims God’s promise from darkness to light. On either side of the large center panel depicting Jesus Christ robed in royal crimson and calling all to follow him, are featured the Dove of the Holy Spirit, victory over death, and the fulfillment of God’s kingdom.

The Chapel

Many leaders of the church envisioned a chapel to accommodate and be more functional for smaller groups. Plans were approved and in 1997 construction began. As with the sanctuary the congregation wanted stain glass windows to be included in the plans. The theme for the project “Water of Life” flows through the whole concept. The rose window located behind the podium depicts the Dove of Christ. The dome windows represent the moon and stars of creation. Again the cost of the construction was paid in full by donations, gifts and memorials.

Fellowship Hall

Wilson Fellowship Hall, named in honor of our founding pastor, Rev. Al Wilson, is the center of many of the social activities and meetings at Willowbrook. Activities ranging from dinners, to Sunday fellowship, to movies, to Senior Summer Camp and more have enjoyed the fellowship hall.

State of the Art Kitchen

Over the years, the serving of large groups emphasized the need for improvements to the kitchen. Plans were drawn up and construction of a new kitchen was started in July of 2000 and a consecration service for the finished kitchen was held in October 2000.

The pantry, kitchen and storage room were enlarged, and stainless steel equipment was provided to meet the growing needs of the congregation. As is the tradition at Willowbrook, no outside loans were taken, but by the generosity of Willowbrookers the kitchen was paid in full by December 2000.

Administrative Building

The Administrative Building was part of the original construction, but has under gone changes over the years. As the congregation grew the need for additional pastors and office staff also grew. An additional 1500 square feet was added to the building, which included a conference room, new library/lounge area, and enlarged staff office area, and was dedicated on December 8, 1992. The current office staff is fortunate to work with a congregation that meets the needs of the staff by continuing to realize the need for up-to-date equipment, and makes those up-dates when needed.
