Outreach and Missions

Outreach and missions have no bounds at Willowbrook, and there are no limits on the spiritual and humanitarian activities in this “City of Volunteers.” “Getting involved” and “working for causes” is as natural as breathing for members of this congregation.

Scores of Willowbrookers regularly volunteer at various Sun Health hospitals and facilities. We are also on duty with the Sun City Posse and the Prides (community beautification group); feed the hungry at St. Mary’s Food Alliance and help to build Habitat for Humanity dwellings. To date Willowbrook has participated in building 6 Habitat homes for low-income families.

The Outreach and Missions Committee is continually touching those in poverty, distress and spiritual need. Willowbrookers make contributions and periodic visits to the United Methodist Outreach Ministries (UMOM) New Day residence complex for the homeless in Phoenix and participate in their Christmas card project which supports lodging for homeless families, Sidewalk Sunday school Project, Dysart Community Center, Wesley Center and the Habitat for Humanity Community.

The Committee also conducts outreach activities including “Souper Bowl Sunday” collections for the needy, Valleyview Community Food Bank, food collections for the Salvation Army, annual Crop Walk, donations to Church World Service “Tool and Blanket” project, and as part of the Desert Southwest Annual Conference 2008 mission project “Happy Feet” collected 750 pairs of socks donated to a local agency and donated $1000.00 for missions outside the area. Our loose change sent an “ark” around the world through the Heifer Project and is currently helping to purchase a water buffalo for a needy farmer.
