Fellowship Activities
Youthful Seniors
For those who want to keep active in every way, Willowbrook offers Youthful Seniors, an organization aimed at increasing church membership and encouraging new people into our fellowship.
The vibrant group of young-at-heart seniors enjoys special fellowship at monthly meetings, with programs selected each year by those attending its October meeting. Activities have included Diamondbacks games, concerts, theater performances, Super Bowl parties, games, cards and occasional day-trips to an Arizona attraction.
Its mission project is EI Mirage Elementary School. The organization is ideal for seniors who may still have other daytime commitments, but all are welcome!
Willowbrook Wanderers
Who doesn't like to travel? We do plenty of it through the Willowbrook Wanderers, an aptly named group dedicated to enjoying and admiring God's magnificent universe and entertainment pleasures.
Tour groups have ventured to both coasts for week-long sightseeing, to Pasadena for the Rose Parade, to Branson and its spectacular shows, even a barge trip in the East. Wanderers provide day tours and overnights to Arizona's many attractions – such as The Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Karchner Caverns – plus summertime "Beat the Heat Getaways" into the High Country. The Wanderers remain on the lookout for attractive cruise arrangements we might join.
Like the theatre? Wanderers arrange bus travel to Broadway Palms in Mesa, Hale Theatre in Gilbert and other entertainment venues. For travel buffs, the group regularly offers interesting travelogues and videos that can also be enjoyed by "armchair travelers" unable to hit the road.
Established in 1977, as one of Willowbrook's first major activities, the Wanderers' travels are planned by a leadership group, based on ideas and desires expressed by members of the congregation. Each event is accompanied by leaders dedicated to the comfort and pleasure of the group.
Writing Your Own Story
Who Am I? There are more than 383 positive adjectives that can be used to describe ourselves and characters in our families and personal stories.
How Am I? There are over 155 feelings that we have experienced in the pages of our stories in individual books.
Join us and reminisce about “The Good Old Days.”
The “Writing Your Own Story” class meets on the 1st and
3rd Wednesdays each month (October-April) from 2-4 p.m. in the Conference
Room. This is an open ended class, join in at your leisure. For more
information contact the church office.
Fellowship Groups
In a congregation of over 800 members it is easy for new and old members alike, to feel “lost in the crowd.” Not at Willowbrook.
A unique entity called fellowship groups encourages small “groups” of Willowbrookers with common interests to get together. A special benefit is providing a ready association of new members with those who have been at Willowbrook for years. There are numerous active groups in the communities served by our church. The purpose of the groups is defined as “to provide fellowship, welcome new members, support one another in emergencies, establish communication, and provide an avenue for expression of ideas.”
Each group plans special events. There can be social activities—dining out, gathering for picnics or potlucks, going to a concert or play, or attending special church events together. Some of the groups have organized their own outreach projects aimed at caring for those in need, becoming another element in this mission-oriented church.
